Episode 8 Now Online

Episode 8 of Sounds of Knoxville Theatre Podcast is now online - you'll notice it's in two parts, because the file was too large to upload all at once!  My very special guest this week is Laura Beth Wells, graduate of Farragut High School and the University of Tennessee Dept. of Theatre, as well as currently appearing in "Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark" on Broadway.  Enjoy!

You Want to Major in What???

I've been meaning to post this for two weeks now, and kept forgetting. The guy that wrote this could have been me, 25 years ago. Here it is: 10 Ways Being a Theatre Major Prepared Me for Success
When I chose my major, I had no pipe dreams about becoming a professional actor. I did it because more than one wise adult had advised me that my actual major in college would have less impact on my eventual job search than having the actual degree. “Study what you love” I was told, “not what you think will get you a job.” I listened for once and chose theatre because I’d done it all through my secondary education, I had relative success doing it, and because I simply loved being a part of it. Fortunately, my parents gave me absolutely no grief about my choice (unlike most of my fellow majors. Thanks mom & dad!)

Episode 4 Now Online

Episode 4 is Online! An unseasonably warm January in East Tennessee has folks wondering if we'll get any measurable snow this winter.  One thing you don't have to wonder about is theatre, and warm Januarys usually mean no show cancellations, which is always a good thing!  In this week's partly cloudy and warm with a slight chance of rain podcast, I:
  • wax nostalgic about the old days with Zack Allen, Executive Director of the Children's Theatre of Knoxville
  • Overview the month of February in Knoxville area theatre groups
  • Let the cat out of the bag on a couple of major announcements regarding theatre festivals and conferences in the area
No screaming children here - just lively discussion and good information!

As always, you can download the episode directly here. Soon to be a major motion picture!
