Theatre Geeks

Here's another theatre-based podcast you might be interested in following - I've been listening to it for some time now, and it's the one that inspired me to create SOKTP: http://theatregeeks.com/ It's three, well, theatre geeks based out of a community theatre in Indiana that talk about their experiences in theatre every week or so. Take a listen, I think you'll enjoy them.

"Do you hear the people sing..."

"...do you see the backgrounds move?"

Ok, those aren't quite the lyrics to the classic song from "Les Miserables," but that was just one of the many impressions and thoughts I had after experiencing last night's production at the Historic Tennessee Theatre.

What did you think of the new, enhanced, "virtual" staging? The vocals? Casting? Let's hear your thoughts...

Director Rob Marshall (Chicago, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) is set to helm a film adaptation of the acclaimed Broadway musical Into the Woods for The Walt Disney Studios.

The Walt Disney Studios recently announced that Rob Marshall is set to direct a film adaptation of the acclaimed Broadway musical Into the Woods, featuring Stephen Sondheim’s original music. The film will be produced by Marshall and John DeLuca through their production company LUCAMAR Productions. James Lapine, who wrote the stage musical with Stephen Sondheim, will adapt for the screen. The project is in development under a new multi-year producing deal between Disney and LUCAMAR.

NBC, iTheatrics, Launch Philanthropic Campaign to Bring Musical Theatre to Under-Served Schools

NBC is going all out to promote its new TV show about the making of a musical, Smash—and the latest news is really something else. NBC and iTheatrics are launching “NBC’s ‘Smash’: Make a Musical campaign,” which they bill as “a philanthropic initiative that will help create sustainable musical theatre programs in underserved schools nationwide.” The initiative is an outgrowth of iTheatrics’ work in New York City public schools with the The Shubert Foundation/Music Theatre International Broadway Junior Project, and will send a Broadway master professional to a school in 20 U.S. cities to mentor students and teachers in how to produce a musical. Welcome to the premiere of the Sounds of Knoxville Theatre, the online source for podcasts, news and interviews about theatre in the Knoxville and East Tennessee region.

This is the first podcast episode of a weekly series, and my very first guest is Joe Jaynes.  Joe is the Vice President of Theatre Knoxville Downtown, and is also instrumental in the operation of the Erin Players at Erin Presbyterian Church.

I've got lots of news about upcoming area theatre productions and auditions, as well as information about TTA and SETC, the state and regional theatre organizations and also about the 25th Anniversary Tour of "Les Miserables" coming to Knoxville this week.

I appreciate your visit, and hope you come back again.  Enjoy the show!
