My first stretch was 55 episodes from January 2012 - July 2013, then another 16 episodes between November 2017 - February 2019 (with one repeat). 

In those episodes I interviewed 43 different people from the Knoxville or Tennessee theatre communities, and others with unique insights into the dramatic arts. Some of those folks are no longer with us, like Zack Allen, Staci Swedeen and Jayne Morgan. 

Returning to these interviews, local and national theatre news, play openings and auditions and other topics is like a window into the past. I hope you enjoy listening to them.

Special thanks to Dan Cragan for providing an original song that appears as a bumper to the Productions and Auditions segment in the latter group of episodes. FYI the opening and closing music for the first 10 episodes or so is "Streetcorner Symphony" performed by The Atomic Horns, and for the rest of the episodes the opening and closing is an excerpt from Neil Patrick Harris' opening number for the 2012 Tony Awards.

I should also mention my youngest, Rin, was my Production Assistant for several episodes and helped my gather some of my information.

We're back from an extended hiatus just in time for a big event here for Knoxville theatre - the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) is in town this year, and we have an interview with the Community Theatre Festival Chair Lyle Tate. He will tell you all about what it's like to go to SETC and what you as the local theatregoer can expect from the FREE Community Theatre Festival at Austin-East Magnet High School. SETC is at the Knoxville Convention Center Wed, 2/27-Sat, 3/2. Also upcoming productions and auditions!

Episode 71, “Replay of interview with Zack Allen, director of Knoxville Children’s Theatre” from 2012

Here is an excerpt from one of the first episodes of The Sounds of Knoxville Theatre Podcast, from Episode 4 way back in 2012. It's an interview with Zack Allen, the director of the then-Children's Theatre of Knoxville. Sadly we lost Zack very recently and Knoxville's theatre world is still reeling. An extremely moving Celebration of Life was held for Zack at Clarence Brown Theatre on November 4th, and stories were shared of his immense influence on the children, parents and the theatre community of Knoxville and beyond. I hope you enjoy hearing some of his own thoughts on his life and the important place he held children's theatre. He will be greatly missed.

Episode 70, "Tony Award-winning Producer Ashlee Latimer."

This week I am very honored to speak with Knoxville native and recent Tony Award-winning producer of Once On This Island, Ashlee Latimer, as she tells about growing up and learning to love theatre in Knoxville, following her dream to New York to work on Broadway and what it's like to win a Tony Award. Plus a lot of shows continuing this weekend, "Shieks and Shakes" and a Creative Resume workshop. Episode 70 is online, "Tony Award-winning Producer Ashlee Latimer."

Episode 67, "Holler Performing Arts Center"

This week, after a short selection of Productions and Auditions, I talk once again with JP Shuffman and Sara Gaddis of Knoxville Theatre Club, but also with Carolyn Corley from Modern Studio. They have teamed up as partners in this new Knoxville arts venue to produce something brand new - the Holler Performing Arts Center. We'll hear from them as they discuss its history, its place in the Knoxville arts community and the future as a valuable venue for theatre, music and art here in East Tennessee. Episode 65, "Jesus Christ Superstar"

This week I enlist the assistance of some of Knoxville's theatrical brain trust to give me their opinions on NBC's "Jesus Christ Superstar - Live", as well as give a brief overview of the history of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's 1971 Rock Opera. It's a controversial production, and Knoxville is no stranger to controversial opinions - both theatrical, religious and otherwise - and this episode seeks to dig a little into what Webber and Rice were trying to say with their take on the last days in the life of Jesus Christ.
